Empowering Women Through Cooperatives: A Success Story
Economic empowerment is central to women's empowerment. Our Women's Cooperative program in Kavre District shows how organized collective action and skill development can transform lives.
Building from the Ground Up
In 2018, we began working with 120 women from marginalized communities. Most had no formal employment and limited income opportunities. Through participatory needs assessment, we identified tailoring, handicrafts, and organic farming as viable income sources.
The Training Journey
Over 18 months, we provided:
- Technical skill training in tailoring and handicraft production
- Business management and financial literacy education
- Cooperative formation and governance training
- Market linkage support
Impressive Results
Today, the cooperative operates independently with NPR 2,000,000 in collective savings. Members have seen their income increase by an average of 60%. Five product lines have been developed and are selling in local and urban markets.
Beyond economics, women report increased confidence, decision-making power in households, and active participation in community affairs.
The Path Forward
This model is now being replicated in three other districts. We're proud to support women not just as beneficiaries, but as entrepreneurs and changemakers in their communities.
