How Clean Water Changed Lives in 8 Villages
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet thousands of communities in rural Nepal still struggle with water scarcity and waterborne diseases. Our Clean Water Access Program in Ramechhap District demonstrates how targeted interventions can create transformative change.
The Challenge
Before our intervention, 8 villages in Ramechhap had no access to piped water. Women and children walked hours daily to collect water from contaminated sources. Waterborne diseases were rampant, particularly among children under five.
Our Approach
We implemented a comprehensive WASH program that included:
- Installing piped water systems connecting natural water sources to distribution points
- Constructing household toilets for 150 families
- Conducting hygiene awareness campaigns
- Training local water user committees for sustainability
The Impact
The results have been remarkable. Waterborne diseases have decreased by 75%. Children, particularly girls, now attend school regularly instead of spending hours fetching water. Women have time for income-generating activities and community participation.
Most importantly, these communities now own and manage their water systems, ensuring long-term sustainability.
